Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Commvault is the gold standard in cyber resilience, empowering customers to protect and recover from cyberattacks. They are seeking a Senior Product Manager to define and deliver data protection capabilities for their container and cloud portfolio, focusing on Kubernetes and cloud-native environments.
Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end product lifecycle for container and cloud protection -- from discovery and requirements through launch and continuous improvement
- Write precise, implementation-ready PRDs and user stories grounded in your own understanding of container runtime behavior, Kubernetes scheduling, storage CSI internals, and backup/restore workflows
- Validate solutions hands-on: spin up clusters, reproduce customer issues, test recovery flows, and verify that what ships matches what was designed
- Drive architecture and design discussions with engineering -- not as a facilitator, but as a technical peer who understands the trade-offs between approaches such as snapshot-based versus agent-based backup, or in-cluster versus out-of-cluster control planes
- Prioritize the backlog based on customer impact, technical feasibility, and competitive positioning
- Define and validate requirements for cloud-native protection and recovery across Kubernetes/OpenShift environments on AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud
- Ensure solutions meet enterprise standards for scalability, multi-tenancy, security posture, and recovery time objectives
- Conduct deep technical discovery with enterprise customers -- reviewing their actual cluster configurations, RBAC policies, storage classes, and recovery workflows to identify real gaps, not just reported symptoms
- Reproduce and diagnose customer-reported issues in lab environments to validate product behavior and inform requirements
- Gather and synthesize field feedback, customer requests, and partner input into prioritized, technically grounded product requirements
- Perform competitive analysis with hands-on depth -- evaluating competitor products by actually running them, not just reading documentation
- Participate in customer briefings and support go-to-market efforts with sales and marketing
- Build and maintain working technical demos of container backup, restore, and disaster recovery workflows -- including multi-namespace, stateful application, and cross-cluster scenarios
- Author best-practice guides and product documentation grounded in direct lab experience with production-grade Kubernetes and OpenShift deployments
- Support sales engineering with deep product and architecture knowledge to accelerate deals and resolve technical blockers
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline
- 8+ years of product management or engineering experience in enterprise software, cloud platforms, or data protection -- with at least 3 years working directly with containerized environments
- Hands-on experience deploying, operating, and troubleshooting Kubernetes or OpenShift clusters in production or lab environments -- including workload scheduling, persistent storage (CSI drivers, PVCs), networking (CNI, ingress, service mesh), and RBAC
- Direct experience with container-native backup and recovery concepts -- application-consistent snapshots, VolumeSnapshot APIs, Velero or equivalent tooling, and stateful application restore workflows
- Proficient with kubectl and Helm; comfortable reading and writing Kubernetes manifests, YAML configurations, and Operators
- Strong working knowledge of at least two major cloud platforms (AWS EKS, Azure AKS, or Google GKE), including managed node groups, cloud storage integration, and IAM/identity mapping
- Ability to set up and run a representative Kubernetes test environment independently to validate product behavior, reproduce customer issues, and evaluate competitive solutions
- Can engage engineering teams as a technical peer -- reviewing design docs, challenging architectural trade-offs, and writing implementation-ready requirements without hand-holding
- Experience with OpenShift-specific features: OLM, OpenShift Virtualization, Route/Ingress differences, and SCC policies
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or Pulumi, and CI/CD pipelines including GitOps workflows (Argo CD, Flux)
- Experience with service mesh technologies (Istio, Linkerd) and their impact on backup and recovery network flows
- Hands-on experience with container storage interfaces, including Trident, Portworx, Rook/Ceph, or cloud-native storage classes
- Experience with virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V, Nutanix, or OpenShift Virtualization) and data protection in hybrid environments
- Knowledge of compliance requirements relevant to containerized workloads (SOC 2, GDPR, HIPAA, FedRAMP, and others)
- MBA preferred
