The Senior Accountant for the US Oncology Network is responsible for supporting accounting and financial operations, executing month-end close processes, and ensuring compliance with accounting policies while driving process improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Lead and execute all aspects of the month-end close process for assigned USON practices, including journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, allocations, and financial variance analysis
- Serve as the primary accounting liaison for assigned practices, coordinating across Accountants, Practice Controllers, Accounting Managers, and centralized finance teams to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
- Review and analyze balance sheet and income statement activity to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with US GAAP and McKesson accounting policies
- Identify, assess, and drive process improvement opportunities related to close efficiency, standardization, automation, and control effectiveness; lead initiatives from design through implementation
- Execute and oversee key internal controls, including journal entry reviews, balance sheet reconciliation reviews, and documentation of Information Used in Controls (IUC)
- Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation, responding to inquiries, and partnering with auditors and internal stakeholders
- Provide technical accounting guidance on complex or non-routine transactions, including review of contracts and business documentation for appropriate accounting treatment
- Perform trend, flux, and root-cause analysis and prepare ad hoc financial analyses to support leadership decision-making
- Act as a subject matter expert and mentor to accountants and senior accountants, providing guidance, coaching, and knowledge sharing without formal people management responsibilities
- Promote an enterprise-wide mindset by collaborating effectively across functions and supporting continuous improvement and change initiatives
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field, or equivalent experience
- Typically requires 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong understanding of US GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
- Advanced knowledge of balance sheet and income statement structure and account usage
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
- Ability to lead complex accounting processes and projects independently
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence across levels and functions
- High level of attention to detail with the ability to manage competing priorities
- Advanced Excel skills and comfort working with large data sets
- Experience with ERP systems (PeopleSoft preferred; SAP a plus)
- Comfort leveraging automation, AI tools, and process improvement techniques
- CPA or CPA-eligible strongly preferred
- Experience supporting multi-entity or healthcare-related accounting environments
- Experience working with The US Oncology Network or physician practice accounting preferred
