Job description: Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 serves nearly 15,500 students in preschool through grade 12 and is located halfway between Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Michigan. Our District has one early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools and a high school program divided between two 9 – 12th grade campuses. The District encompasses portions of Waukegan, Beach Park and Park City.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The school tutors will be directly responsible to the Director for Bilingual and Multicultural Education.

Responsibilities:

Support classroom language instruction for Newcomers and bilingual students under the guidance of a certified teacher

Obtain and maintain certification for a paraprofessional through the Regional Office of Education

Perform instructional interventions under the guidance of a certified teacher to support bilingual students
Requirements: Paraprofessional License

Salary: Bilingual tutors are identified in recognition clause and are part of the paraprofessional union. Salary is determined per the bargained agreement of the paraprofessional union. The maximum hours per day for a bilingual tutor is 6.5.

Additional Information: Bilingual tutors are to only be used in instructional situations and in direct contact supporting education of students. This is a grant funded position; therefore, it is year-to-year.
