Department and Project
You will become part of Compost, the infrastructure product squad within the Infrastructure Services Tribe. Compost is responsible for providing and operating critical compute, storage, and platform services that underpin internal infrastructure components as well as mission-critical business applications.In this role, your primary focus will be on Windows-based infrastructure services, operated in cloud and hybrid environments, including AWS, while working in a squad that owns a broader infrastructure portfolio.You think in services and lifecycles, not just systems: from design and provisioning to stable operation, continuous improvement, and decommissioning.You embrace a DevOps mindset, combining operational responsibility with automation, standardization, and close collaboration across teams. Reliability, security, and operability are at the core of your daily work.
A key part of this role is not only to ensure stable operations, but also to drive forward unresolved topics in the Windows environment, reduce operational dependency on individual experts, and actively transfer knowledge to internal team members.
Main tasks
As a DevOps Engineer
Operate, maintain, and continuously improve Windows Server environments in production and non-production
Take end-to-end ownership of Windows virtual machines across their entire lifecycle
Operate Windows-based services in AWS and hybrid infrastructure environments
Perform patching, updates, and security hardening of Windows systems
Analyze and resolve incidents and operational issues in a critical production environment
Identify, structure, and actively work through existing open topics and operational backlog in the Windows environment
Drive forward unresolved infrastructure topics independently and ensure tangible progress within the assignment period
Automate recurring operational tasks and contribute to Infrastructure-as-Code based service provisioning
Contribute to standardized infrastructure services consumed via Infrastructure-as-Code
Collaborate closely with Linux, storage, container, cloud, and platform engineers within the squad
Support platform services such as:Virtual machines (Windows & RHEL)
Storage services (block and NAS)
Virtual workplaces
Maintain documentation, operational procedures, and service standards
Actively contribute to continuous improvements in stability, automation, and security
Transfer knowledge to internal team members and support their upskilling in Windows-based infrastructure operations
Reduce dependency on single experts by establishing transparency, documentation, and sustainable knowledge sharing
Prepare a structured handover of open topics, solutions, and operational know-how to internal colleagues
Qualifications
Background and required skills:
Bachelor or Master’s degree in the following areas: Computer science, Engineering, Information Technology, natural science, mathematics, business or equivalent work experience in IT
5+ years hands-on experience in Windows Server administration in operational or DevOps-oriented environments
Solid knowledge of Windows patching, system hardening, and operational best practices
Experience operating Windows workloads in cloud and hybrid environments, ideally including AWS
Strong troubleshooting skills in Windows-based infrastructure and operations contexts
Experience with virtualized infrastructures
Ability to independently take over, structure, and drive forward open operational topics
Strong sense of ownership and responsibility for productive systems
Structured, reliable, and service-oriented way of working
Ability to document solutions and operational procedures in a clear and sustainable manner
Experience in knowledge transfer, mentoring, or upskilling colleagues
Strong team spirit and good communication skills in an international environment
Advantage:
Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code or automation concepts
Basic knowledge of Linux environments
Experience with storage technologies such as block and NAS
Hands-on experience with AWS services in an infrastructure or operations context
Experience working in agile or squad-based organizations
SAFe working environment knowledge
